A lack of knowledge about basic golf cart battery maintenance can lead to all kinds of problems. Now, just because a golf cart battery maybe labeled as maintenance free or Gel, doesn’t mean it doesn’t need a little love and care. Make sure you keep the post clean, a little baking soda and toothbrush will clean it right up, be sure you are wearing your goggles and glove when working with lead acid batteries. Periodically check for cracks in the golf cart batteries, some of the greens aren’t as even as they look, just ask your ball. Are you a seasonal golfer? If so, unplug your U1 Golf Cart Battery so not to deplete your battery power.
Some important things to remember for wet acid batteries are: Do not allow plates to be exposed to air and do not fill the water all the way up to the cap. Do not use water with a high mineral content. You should use only distilled or deionised water.
Check water levels in each cell of each battery weekly to ensure that the leaded plates in the battery are submerged in liquid. Don’t fill the cell all the way up — add just enough water to cover the plates.
